Cloud forms and I don’t care…

August 26, 2009

Like I said when I started this whole photo-a-day(ish) thing in order to unload all the photos I have sitting on my computer they aren’t all going to be great.  And todays addition is truly in the eye of the beholder.  I hate these three pictures.  I don’t really like the subject to begin with.  But who knows, maybe you or someone else thinks these are the greatest photographs ever.

This is always what surprises me about photography.  The shots that are my favorites when put up for review are usually not other peoples favorite.  For me, my sentiment is influenced by the personal connections I have to my photographs.  Perhaps thats why I don’t really like these shots much.  I was just smoking a cigarette and looked up and wanted to try out a new camera (maybe its just the bad scans).  Others are able to be more objective which makes me wonder if my choice of aesthetics can even be trusted when it comes to my own work.

It doesn’t matter as much to me whether a photo is “good” or not. Photos are a window into something other people weren’t there to see in real life. True, these won’t win any awards (mainly because people who give awards for photographs seem to look for technical value), but i like looking at them.

True, they aren’t the best photos in the world, but for some reason this seem to be better than the average “Look at these pretty clouds!” photo. I think I am partial to odd color casts though. I also like the definitive light source of the sun rather than an all-over sun light.
